About the event
Brenda Tate will be discussing her book, "Journal of a Black Women in Blue," which highlights her experiences as one of Pittsburgh's first female police officers, including her 40 years on the force (such as her interactions with Rosa Parks and the Dalai Lama), the racism and sexism she encountered, and her struggles with addiction. It will also provide insight into her current work as a community activist in Pittsburgh's Hill District.
The program will feature a showing of a 15 minute documentary video from Tate's website, a moderated question and answer session including audience participation, and a book signing. Participants will have the opportunity to purchase Tate's book, the publication of which was supported by NCPL's Vivian Davidson Hewitt Trust Fund.
